My journey into medicine was shaped by what I witnessed firsthand on the frontlines of healthcare. As a practicing Physician Assistant (PA-Med), I saw the immense pressure created by Ghana’s doctor-to-patient imbalance and the daily challenges faced by underserved communities. These experiences strengthened my conviction that improving healthcare requires not only advanced clinical expertise, but also innovative ways of educating, empowering, and reaching people beyond the walls of hospitals. This inspired me to pursue an MBChB while continuing to nurture my long-standing hobbies in writing, content creation, and technology.
However, pursuing medical education comes with a significant financial burden. Being selected as a 2024/2025 KGL Foundation Scholar became a defining turning point in my academic journey. The Foundation’s support went toward securing my medical education, helping cover my tuition and enabling me to progress from Level 300 to Level 400.
The impact of that support went beyond tuition. By removing the constant stress of unpaid fees, the scholarship gave me the peace of mind to concentrate on my medical training while using my free time productively to pursue the hobbies I have developed alongside my education.
One of those hobbies is content creation. I manage a public health YouTube channel with more than 4.14K subscribers and over 2,000 videos focused on health education, disease prevention, and medical knowledge (https://www.youtube.com/@ChrisOseiPoku). I have also authored several medical, scientific, and science-fiction books, combining my interest in medicine and science with my passion for storytelling, imagination, and exploring futuristic ideas (https://www.amazon.com/stores/Chris-Osei-Poku/author/B0F7L3433K/allbooks).
Another major hobby I have pursued alongside medical school is no-code website development and no-code mobile app development. Using my evenings, personal time, creativity, and sweat equity, I have independently built and experimented with digital projects without allowing these pursuits to take precedence over my medical education.
One of the most significant of these projects is JesusChristLive.com (https://JesusChristLive.com), which began as a personal project and has grown into a global Christian digital platform integrating spiritual, educational, media, and community support. The KGL Foundation secured my place in medical school at a critical stage of my education. That support not only helped me remain academically focused, but also gave me the stability and freedom to continue developing my hobbies in public health education, medical and scientific writing, science-fiction writing, content creation, and no-code website and mobile app development.
As I continue my clinical training and prepare for the final stages of my medical education and future licensing examinations, I remain committed to growing as both a future physician and a lifelong creator. I hope to bring together my medical training, creativity, writing, and interest in digital technology to develop ideas that can educate, inspire, and ultimately contribute to a stronger and more equitable future for Ghana and beyond.

The KGL Foundation Scholarship would make a significant difference in my life by alleviating the financial burden on my family, allowing me to focus on my education. I have overcome financial challenges, including difficulty in paying my school fees while my uncle supports both my education and his son’s education, as well as challenges caused by my mother’s health condition. Despite these difficulties, I have remained committed to my studies. I am currently a second-year student at KNUST studying Logistics and Supply Chain Management, working hard to build the knowledge and skills I need to achieve my future goals.
