The KGL Foundation has officially commissioned the KGL Eve Medical Centre, a purpose-built mental wellness and healthcare facility, marking a major milestone in its ongoing commitment to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure. The newly inaugurated centre provides a dignified, patient-focused environment designed to expand access to quality mental health services and promote holistic well-being.
Located on the campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, the facility is strategically positioned to serve populations across the Ashanti Region and surrounding areas. The project responds to a pressing national need, as mental health services in Ghana remain limited, overstretched, and often stigmatized.
The scope of work reflects a deliberate focus on functionality, safety, and long-term impact. Phase One of the centre includes psychiatric consulting rooms, therapy and counselling spaces, in-patient wards, a pharmacy, diagnostic units, and rehabilitation areas. Together, these facilities support early intervention, treatment, and recovery within a calm and welcoming setting.
In addition to patient care areas, the centre incorporates administrative and support spaces designed to enhance operational efficiency and provide healthcare professionals with the environment needed to deliver effective, compassionate care.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Elliot Dadey, Chief Executive Officer of the KGL Foundation, highlighted the vision behind the project, emphasizing the need to change perceptions around mental healthcare.
“This is not an institution of confinement — it is a centre of healing, hope, and human dignity,” he said.
The initiative was inspired by the advocacy of Her Royal Highness Lady Julia Osei Tutu II, whose commitment to mental health awareness and community wellbeing played a significant role in shaping the centre’s vision. Her contribution was acknowledged during the ceremony as instrumental to the project’s realization.
Stakeholders from the health and academic sectors have described the facility as a timely and transformative addition to Ghana’s mental healthcare landscape. The centre is expected to reduce pressure on existing institutions while improving access to specialized mental health services within the region.
The KGL Eve Medical Centre stands as a testament to the KGL Foundation’s dedication to corporate social responsibility, complementing its ongoing investments in healthcare, education, youth development, and community empowerment. Through initiatives such as this, the Foundation continues to support infrastructure that delivers lasting social impact and improved quality of life for communities across Ghana.
